The Commonwealth Sport Executive Board has recommended Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, to host the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games, marking a significant milestone for the city’s rise as a sports infrastructure hub. The recommendation was made on October 15, 2025, following a detailed evaluation of bids from Ahmedabad and Abuja, Nigeria. The final host city will be confirmed by the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly on November 26, 2025, in Glasgow. Ahmedabad’s proposal highlighted its Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, including the Narendra Modi Stadium, upcoming aquatics centre, indoor arenas, and an athletes’ village, with completion targeted by 2029. Officials such as Dr. Donald Rukare, Interim President of Commonwealth Sport, and P. T. Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, praised the city’s vision, infrastructure readiness, and alignment with Commonwealth values. Additional support includes airport expansions, metro and BRTS improvements, and hotel development to accommodate athletes, officials, and visitors. If approved, this will be India’s second time hosting the Commonwealth Games after New Delhi 2010, and the 2030 edition marks the centenary of the Games, originally held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. Analysts say Ahmedabad’s selection would cement India’s position as a global sports hub and strengthen its long-term ambitions, including potential bids for the 2036 Olympics. The decision also underscores the city’s commitment to developing world-class sporting facilities and promoting large-scale international events. #Ahmedabad #CommonwealthGames2030
