A chilling crime has rocked East Nagpur, where a family was reportedly robbed after being knocked unconscious by a tranquilizer spray late Thursday night. The incident took place in the Lakadganj area, where unidentified intruders entered a residence, allegedly using a chemical spray to subdue the family members before escaping with cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables. When neighbors noticed the door left ajar the following morning, they alerted the police, who found the family still unconscious and rushed them to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, all victims are now stable. Such incidents are not new to the region. In 2022, a similar case was reported in Mahal, where robbers used chloroform to incapacitate an elderly couple before stealing jewelry worth ₹8 lakh. Again in 2023, police in Ajni registered a case involving a masked gang that used sleeping gas during a late-night break-in. Investigators believe the latest robbery could be the work of a well-organized network familiar with chemical-based theft techniques spreading across urban Maharashtra. Police have launched a full-scale investigation, scanning CCTV footage from nearby lanes and shops. Forensic teams have also collected residue samples from the crime scene to identify the chemical agent used. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious about suspicious noises, movements, or strangers in their vicinity, especially at night.
