The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially issued a work order for the city’s first Working Women’s Hostel, marking a major step toward improving women’s safety and accommodation facilities in Nagpur. The project, sanctioned on October 17, 2025, will be developed in the North Nagpur zone, with an estimated cost of ₹8.4 crore. The initiative aims to provide secure, affordable housing for women employed in various sectors, especially those migrating from other districts or states for work. According to officials from NMC’s Social Welfare Department, the hostel will include over 100 residential units, a dining hall, library, daycare center, and security surveillance systems. The project aligns with the Government of India’s Working Women Hostel Scheme, designed to support women’s empowerment by addressing urban housing challenges. The tender process concluded earlier this month, and construction is expected to begin by November 2025, with completion targeted within 18 months. Women’s organizations such as the Nagpur Mahila Parishad and Rotary Club of Nagpur North have welcomed the move, calling it a long-awaited step toward inclusive urban development. Social activists emphasize that such infrastructure will help women gain economic independence and security in a growing metro like Nagpur. The NMC has also hinted at plans for similar hostels in South Nagpur, depending on public response and demand. #NagpurDevelopment #WorkingWomensHostel
