The usual protocol for the assembly’s seating has long been that the chief minister is positioned in a chair adjacent to the Speaker, while ministers are seated in a separate row. The chairs opposite the ministers’ row are reserved for the Leader of the Opposition and leaders of other legislature parties, arranged according to their numerical strength. On Thursday, Vijay briefly occupied the seat designated for ministers, sitting between his colleague K. A. Sengottaiyan (also the Leader of the House) and Aadhav Arjuna. Earlier in the session, he had been seated on the right side of Speaker J. C. D. Prabhakar. This gesture was noted as unprecedented, with news agency PTI reporting that no other chief minister had previously sat in the seat intended for ministers. The move was part of a broader day of activities for Vijay, who arrived at the assembly after attending several government events earlier in the day. In addition to the seating change, Vijay also held a high-level review meeting to address the rescue efforts of Tamil Nadu residents stranded in Nepal due to severe flash floods.
