Agricultural Department Faces Challenges in Farmer Identification and Crop Guidance in Tiruppur District Tiruppur district, which is experiencing significant agricultural activity during the southwest monsoon season, has seen widespread sowing of crops such as maize, jowar, jute, groundnut, and small onion. The agricultural and horticulture department is tasked with ensuring farmers receive essential services, including crop management guidance, awareness about modern technologies, quality seeds, and fertilizer distribution. Field staff are primarily responsible for implementing these initiatives. The department has been conducting a campaign to assign unique identification numbers to farmers to ensure they can access government subsidies, such as central and state agricultural schemes and the "PM Kisan" financial assistance program. Over the past year, the initiative has made substantial progress, with 97% of the 1.03 lakh farmers in the district already registered. However, officials have emphasized the need to locate the remaining 3% of farmers who have not yet received their unique IDs. Farmers who have not obtained the identification numbers are described as large-scale cultivators who own extensive land. These individuals reportedly do not require government subsidies or benefits, leading to a lack of interest in the registration process. Field staff have expressed concerns that tracking these farmers poses a significant challenge, as they are less likely to engage with the program. The delay in completing the identification process has impacted the ability of agricultural officers to provide comprehensive guidance on monsoon season crop sowing and fertilizer distribution.#monsoon_season #pm_kisan #agricultural_and_horticulture_department #tiruppur_district #crop_sowing
