Beijing-Based AIIB Inspects MSEDCL Projects in Nagpur A delegation from the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) conducted a field visit to Nagpur district to assess the progress of power infrastructure projects funded by the bank. The inspection focused on evaluating the implementation of initiatives aimed at strengthening rural power networks and improving electricity reliability for agricultural consumers. The projects, managed by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), include the construction of new substations, capacity upgrades, and the installation of additional power transformers and feeder lines for 33kV and 11kV systems. During the visit, the AIIB team reviewed the solar agriculture project at Selu in Mouda division. MSEDCL officials provided updates on the construction progress, technical specifications, and safety protocols in place at the site. The delegation also examined measures related to environmental protection and workplace safety, which are integral to the execution of AIIB-funded projects. The team comprised AIIB associate officer Shuvam Sarkar Roy, senior environmental specialist Indrani Ghosh, water specialist Smita Mishra, social specialist Sue Tran Quay, environmental consultant Damanjit Singh Minhas, and consultant Rajiv Mishra. The inspection extended to Shivni village in Kamptee taluka, where the delegation met with a beneficiary of the “Magel Tyala Saur Krushipump Yojana” (Solar Agricultural Pump Scheme). This interaction allowed the team to observe how infrastructure projects and solar initiatives are being implemented at the grassroots level.
