The first phase involves constructing one side of the twin bridge, featuring three lanes, which will initially accommodate two-way traffic. Once this section becomes operational, the existing bridge will be dismantled, and the second carriageway will be constructed. The completed structure will allow both sides to handle one-way traffic, significantly improving connectivity across the region. The project, managed by the Maharashtra Road Development Corporation (MRIDC), initially aimed to open the first phase by March 2026. However, this deadline was postponed to the pre-monsoon period. Despite advancements in major structural works and the start of cable installation, the revised timeline has been missed again, with the first phase now expected to be completed by the end of the year. The delays are attributed to several factors, including design modifications required due to parallel infrastructure projects, the complexity of construction over a busy railway corridor, and the need for approvals for the cable-stayed structure. The bridge’s design was initially prepared by a Taiwan-based firm but was later approved by IIT Bombay, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
