The arrests occurred late Monday night after Ujjain police, acting on a tip-off during a routine patrol, intercepted a suspicious Maharashtra-registered vehicle. Officers discovered the contraband and detained both suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that Charde and Tiwari had procured the drugs from Mandsaur, a known hub for synthetic drug trafficking. The duo had briefly stopped in Ujjain to pick up an associate before being intercepted by police. Authorities seized the mephedrone and the vehicle, and are now examining mobile phones, call data records, and other evidence to trace the broader network. Charde, a fugitive with a long criminal history, is considered a central figure in Nagpur’s drug trade. He has faced around 15 registered offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including charges of attempt to murder. Charde’s notoriety stems from his role as a mastermind in a statewide drug cartel.
