Employees Welcome Extension of OPS Benefits Government employees in Andhra Pradesh who benefited from the extension of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) to a portion of employees previously under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) gathered at the Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday to express gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The event, organized by the AP DSC Forum, the Noble Teachers’ Association, the PRTU, the APTF, and other employee and teacher associations, drew a large turnout of participants and their families. Attendees symbolically poured milk over a portrait of the Chief Minister as a gesture of thanks and raised slogans praising the government for restoring pension benefits. The program highlighted the government’s decision to extend OPS to employees recruited under the 2004 notification, who had entered service later due to technical reasons. This move, which also included family pension and gratuity benefits, was said to provide financial security to nearly 11,000 families. Government Whip in the Legislative Council Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of pension security for retired employees and their families. He criticized the previous government for failing to address issues like dearness allowance arrears and reimbursement of medical bills for employees. Rao also acknowledged the Chief Minister’s efforts to align teachers’ salaries with those of revenue employees, urging educators and workers to collaborate with the government for the state’s development. TDP State president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao reiterated the coalition government’s commitment to employee and teacher welfare.
