RGUHS Proposes Construction of 900-Bed Hi-Tech Hospital on Ramanagara Campus Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has resolved to construct a 900-bed high-tech hospital for clinical training on its new campus in Ramanagara, as confirmed by its senate and syndicate. The university has submitted a detailed proposal to the State government, awaiting approval to proceed with the project. Vice-Chancellor B.C. Bhagwan emphasized that the decision stems from the need for an independent hospital to support medical students’ clinical practice, stating that the existing district and taluk hospitals in Ramanagara lack sufficient beds for expanded training. The project, part of a larger campus development near Archakarahalli in Ramanagara, was initially planned to include medical, dental, pharmacy, and nursing colleges alongside two hospitals—a 250-bed super specialty facility and a 750-bed hi-tech hospital. However, the government initially approved only the colleges and smaller hospitals, excluding the 750-bed facility. This decision led to the revival of the hi-tech hospital proposal after objections from C.N. Manjunath, a cardiologist and MP for Bengaluru Rural, who raised concerns about the plan in January 2026. Following his objection, the university’s senate and syndicate approved the hospital construction. The RGUHS campus, spanning 216 acres, has faced delays in completion. While 70% of the work is already done, the project missed its original deadline of March-April 2026. Dr. Bhagwan noted that the administration and medical college blocks will be handed over by November 2026, allowing the university to relocate to Ramanagara.
