Oganihu highlighted that while security threats such as kidnapping and armed attacks persist, these should not justify the abuse of motorists and other road users. The group emphasized that security necessity cannot be used as a justification for extortion, harassment, or the conversion of highways into revenue-collection corridors. It called on the Inspector-General of Police, heads of the Armed Forces, and other security agencies operating in the Southeast to conduct audits of checkpoints across the five states. The audit would assess the locations, operational necessity, authorization, and personnel of these checkpoints. The group stated that checkpoints deemed essential for security should operate professionally and transparently, while those serving no identifiable security purpose or functioning primarily as extortion points should be dismantled.
