Atlanta Police Capture Suspect in Beltline Stabbing After Fatal Attack Atlanta police apprehended a man hours after he was reported to have randomly attacked two people, including a woman who was fatally stabbed on the Beltline near the Ansley Golf Club, authorities announced Thursday. Officers located the suspect and the bike he had been riding on Peachtree Street near Pine Street shortly after the public was asked to help search for him. The man was taken into custody without incident, and his identity was not immediately disclosed. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman, who died from the stabbing, as 23-year-old Alyssa Paige on Friday. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens addressed concerns about safety on the Beltline during a news conference shortly after 6:30 p.m., stating that the suspect had been placed in custody. He emphasized that the city had implemented multiple safety measures, including police bike patrols, an extensive camera network, and additional lighting, to protect residents in the high-traffic area. Dickens acknowledged the unsettling nature of the incident, noting that the woman’s death occurred during the daytime in a space where people typically engage in normal activities. “To have this happen gives people a little bit of concern, or a lot of concern,” he said, urging the public to remain vigilant. The attack was not isolated. Just before the stabbing, a postal worker was struck with a rock at the nearby U.S. Post Office, sustaining minor injuries. Atlanta police Chief Darin Schierbaum confirmed that both incidents were connected and that the victims were random targets. “This is a shock. It’s an outlier,” Schierbaum said, vowing to ensure the suspect’s arrest.#atlanta_public_schools #atlanta_police #atlanta_mayor_andre_dickens #atlanta_beltline #atlanta_beltline_inc
