Maha Eyeing Land For East Vidarbha Industrial Corridor The Maharashtra government has initiated a significant land acquisition plan to establish the East Vidarbha Industrial Corridor, a project that aims to connect several districts in the region. The initiative, which has been in the planning stages for over a year, involves acquiring between 10,000 and 15,000 hectares of land. A dedicated committee, led by the state’s principal secretary for industries, P Anabalgan, and including divisional commissioner Vijaylakshmi Bidari as vice-chairman, has been formed to outline the strategy for this endeavor. During a recent meeting, the committee outlined plans to identify key areas across the districts of East Vidarbha, starting from Nagpur to Gadchiroli. The goal is to ensure connectivity and infrastructure development for industries in each district. The corridor is expected to integrate existing projects such as steel units in Gadchiroli and renewable energy initiatives by companies like Avaada Group and Waaree. Additionally, the defense, nuclear, and aerospace corridor planned for Saoner will be incorporated into this industrial belt. Investments in the region have already reached nearly 1 lakh crore rupees, with 70% of these commitments allocated to Gadchiroli and the remaining in Nagpur. The project aims to provide connectivity to all districts in East Vidarbha, including Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli. While the land may not be contiguous, the plan involves acquiring pockets in each district to ensure road, rail, and other infrastructure facilities are established throughout the area. Multiple agencies are collaborating on this initiative.
