Karnataka Budget 2026: What is in it for Bengaluru The 2026–27 Karnataka budget, presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on March 6, prioritizes major infrastructure developments for Bengaluru, focusing on road networks, metro expansion, tunnel corridors, and a second airport. Key allocations aim to address traffic congestion, improve public transportation, and enhance urban living conditions. Road and traffic infrastructure projects include the development of the Outer Ring Road stretch from Silk Board Junction to KR Puram Metro Station as a global-standard corridor at a cost of Rs 450 crore. A total of 158 km of roads will undergo white-topping, a technique involving a cement concrete layer over existing bitumen roads, at Rs 1,700 crore, with plans to white-top over 450 km of roads over the next three years at Rs 3,000 crore. Additionally, 175 junctions will be beautified, 500 km of footpaths upgraded, and 100 skywalks constructed across the city over three years. Metro and rail projects highlight the expansion of Namma Metro, which currently operates a 96-km network serving around 10 lakh daily commuters. An additional 41 km of metro lines is proposed for completion in 2026–27. A 9-km pedestrian walkway along the Outer Ring Road metro viaduct will be built at Rs 160 crore. Under the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project, land acquisition for Corridor-2 (Benniganahalli–Chikkabanavara) is complete, while acquisition for Corridor-4 (Heelalige–Rajanukunte) is ongoing. Rs 500 crore is allocated this year, with a target completion date of December 2030.
