Vet Student Steals Gold from Train Passenger to Recover Online Betting Losses A veterinary student from Nanded, Rohit Duyyewar (23), was arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewelry and cash worth approximately ₹23 lakh from a sleeping passenger aboard the Bikaner Express at Nagpur railway station. The incident occurred around 2.15 am on March 29, when Harishchand Chandwani (65), a resident of Raipur, was traveling with his family to Ujjain in coach A2. Chandwani’s wife had placed a purse containing gold ornaments and ₹20,000 under her head while sleeping on berth K03. The purse was later found empty in the coach bathroom, prompting an investigation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Nagpur. The GRP, under the supervision of SP (Railways) Mangesh Shinde, launched a thorough inquiry. Investigators examined over 200 CCTV feeds from the station and surrounding areas, identifying a suspect leaving the premises. Analysis of Rapido bike bookings and mobile data led police to Nanded. On April 6, a team was dispatched to monitor vehicles traveling between Nanded and Nagpur. Surveillance intensified on April 7, and Duyyewar was intercepted at Rahate Colony. After a brief chase near Friends Colony, he was arrested. Confronted with CCTV evidence, Duyyewar confessed to the crime. Police recovered gold ornaments valued at around ₹18 lakh, while efforts continue to trace the remaining valuables. The accused was remanded in police custody for further investigation. According to investigators, Duyyewar, who was studying veterinary science in Nagpur, resorted to theft after incurring significant losses from online betting. The case was resolved through coordinated fieldwork and technical surveillance, highlighting the effectiveness of modern investigative methods.#nanded #government_railway_police #rohit_duyyewar #harishchand_chandwani #bikaner_express
