The application allows users to temporarily lock their biometric data, ensuring that no one—including the Aadhaar cardholder themselves—can use it to authenticate services or access sensitive information without explicit permission. The system works by enabling users to lock or unlock their biometric data through the UIDAI mobile application. To lock the data, users must open the app, enter their MPIN ID, and tap the "Biometrics Unlock" icon until it changes to "Confirm Biometrics Lock." Similarly, unlocking requires accessing the app again and selecting the "Biometrics Locked" icon until it switches to "Confirm Unlock Biometrics." However, the process cannot be completed if the user loses their phone or their registered phone number is no longer linked to their Aadhaar card. Once locked, biometric data such as fingerprints, iris scans, and facial recognition are temporarily inaccessible, preventing unauthorized use for services like financial transactions, identity verification, or access to personal assets.
