The dispute has intensified amid political instability in Bangladesh, particularly following the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power in 2024. Despite efforts to mend relations between the two nations, this incident has reignited tensions. Indian border states, including Tripura, West Bengal, and Assam, have adopted a strict stance against illegal immigration, with the ruling BJP in these regions pushing for harsher measures. Bangladesh, however, insists that any repatriation of citizens must follow legal and diplomatic procedures, rejecting forced actions. A high-level meeting between officials from both countries is scheduled for June 8-11 in New Delhi, where the issue is expected to be discussed in detail.
