'The Grounds' Trail Opens for Wake Forest Football Fans in Winston-Salem A new pedestrian trail through the ongoing development of "The Grounds" in Winston-Salem will open ahead of Wake Forest football’s season opener on Thursday, offering fans a unique opportunity to glimpse the project’s progress. The trail, part of a partnership between developers Carter and Front Street Capital, the city of Winston-Salem, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation, will allow visitors to walk along a creek, view construction sites for student housing, and observe the new office building under development. Senior Vice President Adam Parker of Carter emphasized that the trail is designed to provide a safe and scenic route for fans traveling to the game. "You'll be able to walk along the creek. You'll be able to see the work that we've done on the stream. You'll be able to see the new student housing project. You'll be able to see the office building that's under construction," Parker said. The trail will be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, with a newly installed crosswalk at University Parkway and Cherry Street. The intersection has undergone significant redesign to accommodate increased foot traffic from Wake Forest fans. Parker noted that the crosswalk is an at-grade crossing, allowing safe passage for pedestrians. "There's now a crosswalk that goes over University Parkway," he explained. "It's an at-grade crossing, so people can safely cross the street." Safety remains a top priority for the developers.
