Heavy rains, thunderstorms lash parts of Karnataka, bring relief from intense summer heat Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds swept through several regions of Karnataka on Tuesday, offering a temporary reprieve from the relentless summer heat. The weather phenomenon, which began in the early afternoon, brought significant disruption to local infrastructure and communities, with reports of flooding, power outages, and tragic incidents. In Chikkamagaluru, the rain initially started in the Mullayanagiri and Chandradrona mountain ranges before spreading to surrounding areas. The downpour, which began around 2 p.m., lasted for nearly an hour and was accompanied by strong winds and thunder. The intense rainfall caused Honnammanahalla waterfall to overflow, while roads in the city faced severe waterlogging. Vehicles were submerged in areas such as Adichunchanagiri Engineering College Road, Basavanahalli Road, Market Road, MG Road, and Mallandur Road, creating hazardous conditions for commuters. The storm also impacted Naregal town in Gagag district, where sudden showers led to road flooding and disrupted power supply. Tree branches fell onto electrical lines, causing outages. Similarly, Vemgal town in Kolar district experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday evening, with additional downpours reported on Saturday and Sunday. These rains provided much-needed relief from the sweltering heat that had plagued the region. Tragically, the weather events resulted in two fatalities. In Hulsoor, Bidar district, a six-year-old girl named Mahira died after the roof of her house collapsed under the force of strong winds. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, highlighting the dangers posed by the extreme weather.#karnataka #chikkamagaluru #mullayanagiri #chandradrona #hulsoor
