Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Announces No Poor Patient Will Be Denied Surgery Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized on Sunday that the state will ensure no patient suffering from serious illnesses will be denied medical treatment due to financial constraints. Speaking at the conclusion of the Maha Arogya Shibir, a health camp organized by the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund (CMMAF) and Charitable Hospitals Assistance Cell at Dhanwate National College in Nagpur, Fadnavis highlighted the state government’s efforts to expand healthcare access for economically disadvantaged citizens. The initiative includes a range of funding mechanisms designed to cover treatment costs for critical illnesses. Over the past 18 months, the CMMAF has allocated ₹452 crore to treat 57,000 patients. Fadnavis noted that the state has increased hospital capacity and broadened the scope of the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana to include more severe medical conditions. He also introduced a digital system to ensure transparent allocation of beds reserved for poor patients in charitable hospitals. While most treatments are covered under the ₹5 lakh health insurance limit, the government provides additional financial assistance of up to ₹9 lakh for certain illnesses and up to ₹35 lakh for highly expensive medical procedures. Fadnavis also announced the provision of free cochlear implant surgeries for children, a move aimed at improving accessibility to advanced medical care.
