DMK MLA Arrested for Defamatory Remarks, Stalin Condemns Move A DMK legislator, Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, was arrested on Friday for allegedly making defamatory comments against Chief Minister Joseph Vijay. The arrest followed the rejection of her bail plea by the Madras High Court, which had previously dismissed her petition for anticipatory bail. Radhakrishnan, a former minister and MLA, was apprehended during a visit to the Thoothukudi district, approximately 23 kilometers from her constituency. Police reportedly detained her at the scene and transported her to their vehicle. The case against Radhakrishnan stems from allegations that she made offensive remarks against Vijay on June 20. The Tamil Nadu Vikasa Kendra (TVK), the ruling party, filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case under Sections 352 and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Section 352 pertains to intentionally causing disturbance to public peace, while Section 353(2) addresses the act of making statements that spread public unrest. Justice G. K. Ilethirayan, who dismissed Radhakrishnan’s bail plea, stated that as a legislator, she should not have made such remarks. DMK leader and former Chief Minister M. K. Stalin criticized the arrest, questioning the urgency of the action. He accused the ruling party of targeting opposition leaders to maintain power, stating that the government has failed to address serious crimes like murder and sexual assault but is quick to arrest critics. Stalin also highlighted the hypocrisy of the ruling party, noting that no action has been taken against allegations of collective sexual misconduct against a TVK MLA. He tweeted that if defamation cases result in arrests, then ministers’ speeches could lead to numerous jail terms.#mk_stalin #tamil_nadu_vikasa_kendra #dmk_mla #anitha_r_radhakrishnan #chief_minister_joseph_vijay
