During the operation, authorities seized 65 grams of MD, four mobile phones, and two mopeds, with the total value of the recovered items estimated at 9 lakh rupees. The operation, conducted during the early hours of Tuesday, dismantled an interstate drug syndicate planning to supply the contraband to Mumbai and Goa. The intercepted cargo, valued at Rs 38 lakh, was discovered after a 48-hour surveillance operation covering 200km. The truck, registered in Odisha, was en route to Vapi in Gujarat with steel coils for a corporate client but instead took a detour to Sambalpur to load the cannabis. The operation was led by DCP Crime Deepak Aggarwal of the Nagpur police, who coordinated with the crime branch to lay a trap near Joginder Singh Dhaba at Pardi. The suspects, Jogesh Devuri (30) and Mahendra Devuri (40), both residents of Odisha, were arrested around 4.30am. Alongside the cannabis, police seized 29.7 metric tons of steel coils worth Rs 72 lakh and two mobile phones. The total value of the seizure was estimated at Rs 1.5 crore. Preliminary interrogation revealed a calculated modus operandi: the accused used the steel coils as a cover to transport the drugs, with plans to deliver the cannabis to Mumbai and Goa. The suspects reportedly spilled details about their accomplices, naming Babaji Behera from Tirsuriya, Cuttack district, and Vishnu Pradhan from Dakwamunda, Odisha, who allegedly facilitated the procurement and transport of the drugs. A case has been registered at Pardi police station under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
