Delhi Traffic Police Joint Drive to Alleviate Congestion Near Airport Domestic Terminal For commuters traveling to the domestic terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport, the stretch of road near Mehram Nagar has long been plagued by severe traffic jams. Roadside vendors, illegally parked vehicles, and encroachments have narrowed already congested lanes, prompting the Delhi Traffic Police to launch a special joint enforcement drive this week. The operation, coordinated with GMR Group, the airport operator, and residents of Mehram Nagar, aimed to address illegal encroachments and traffic violations that hinder smooth movement. During the drive, authorities focused on clearing unauthorized hawkers, rehris (mobile food stalls), and other roadside obstructions that occupied carriageways and pavements. Vehicles parked in violation of traffic rules were also removed to restore free flow of traffic. Over five enforcement drives conducted in the area, traffic police issued 331 e-challans, booked 89 vehicles under the Violation of Carriage Act (VoCA) provisions, and towed away 63 vehicles for illegal parking. Additionally, 9 roadside rehris were dismantled during the operation. The ground operation was led by traffic inspector Devender Tomar, supported by traffic staff stationed in the area. Delhi Traffic Police officials emphasized that such coordinated drives would continue in the airport vicinity and other critical locations to ensure roads remain free of encroachments and illegal parking. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and provide greater convenience for commuters. The drive highlights the ongoing efforts to manage urban traffic challenges, particularly around high-traffic zones like airports.#delhi_traffic_police #gmr_group #mehram_nagar #devender_tomar #indira_gandhi_international_airport
