Floods Submerge Patna, Displace Thousands in Bihar The situation in Patna, Bihar, has deteriorated as floodwaters surge through the city, submerging both rural and urban areas. The Ganga and other rivers in southern Bihar have reached dangerous levels, causing widespread devastation. In the Dhanra region, several homes have collapsed, while in Danapur, Mokama, and Bakhariapur, makeshift structures have been destroyed. Residents are struggling to cope as water inundates their homes, leaving them stranded and without access to basic necessities. In the Digha area, floodwaters have breached into the Bind Toll, submerging homes and forcing nearly 1,500 families to take shelter under plastic tents along the JP Ganga Path. Access to clean drinking water has become a critical issue for these displaced families. Meanwhile, in Islamganj, a village in Maner, the entire area has turned into an island surrounded by floodwaters. The only means of transportation is now boats, and residents face severe challenges in accessing food, water, and sanitation. In Mokama, over 150 people, including livestock, have sought refuge at the district office after floodwaters engulfed parts of the Diya area. Despite efforts by authorities to provide relief, the response has been inadequate, leaving families stranded without shelter or supplies. Similarly, in Kshahar Diya, five villages have been submerged, with residents forced to relocate to safer ground. Bakhariapur’s Diya area has seen homes collapse due to the flood, with residents like Chharna Rai of Chiria reporting that their homes have been destroyed. The lack of immediate aid has left families in dire straits, unable to secure their belongings or find temporary shelter.
