Senior Congress Leader Urges PM Modi to Halt CBSE's Three-Language Policy Implementation Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising concerns about the abrupt enforcement of the three-language policy for Class IX students by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) during the current mid-session. Singh, who chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, has urged Modi to suspend the policy’s implementation, citing potential disruptions due to insufficient preparation. Singh highlighted that the CBSE’s sudden imposition of the policy mid-session, without adequate teacher training, textbooks, or transition time, risks creating chaos akin to the turmoil caused by the earlier rollout of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. He emphasized that the policy’s enforcement would disproportionately affect students in Southern and North-Eastern states, where Hindi is not widely spoken and local tribal languages may not be included in the CBSE’s recognized language list. In his letter dated June 5, Singh referenced a representation from parents of CBSE Class IX students opposing the policy’s mandatory implementation. He noted that the CBSE’s governing body had previously approved a decision in December 2025 to continue with the existing Scheme of Studies for languages until graded textbooks from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) were released.
