The league confirmed it is reviewing the claim, which was filed by the LA Galaxy, alleging that Inter Miami improperly contacted Casemiro without first acquiring the player’s Discovery Priority. According to sources, the LA Galaxy, which holds Discovery Priority over Casemiro, filed the tampering claim with MLS. Discovery Priority is a rule that allows a club to list a player on its discovery list, granting it exclusive rights to negotiate with the player before other MLS teams can pursue them. The Galaxy’s priority meant Inter Miami had to negotiate with them to secure Casemiro’s rights. While Inter Miami and the Galaxy reached a settlement for the Discovery Priority, MLS stated it will continue its review of the tampering claim. The league emphasized that it will not release details of the settlement until the investigation concludes. “The terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation,” MLS said in a statement. MLS rules outline the process for resolving such disputes. Clubs with Discovery Priority can offer another team $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAA) to relinquish their rights to sign a player. If the club with the higher priority accepts the offer, the player’s rights transfer, and the team with the GAA can proceed with the signing. If not, the club with the higher priority must make a genuine, objectively reasonable offer to the player.
