BYD Seal U Confirmed as Brand's First Hybrid Car with 1200KM Range The Indian market is set to witness the launch of BYD's first hybrid vehicle, the Seal U, which promises an unprecedented 1200 kilometers of range on a single charge. This development marks a significant shift for the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, which has historically focused on pure electric models. The new DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid EV technology will power the Seal U, combining a battery-electric system with a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine. The DM-i technology integrates a dual electric motor and an 18.3kWh battery, enabling the vehicle to operate in three modes: pure electric, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid. In pure electric mode, the car can travel up to 70 kilometers on a full charge. When the battery depletes, the petrol engine acts as a generator to maintain electric propulsion, while under high load conditions, the engine directly powers the wheels. This seamless transition between modes is automated, eliminating the need for manual switching. BYD claims the DM-i system achieves exceptional thermal efficiency, with the petrol engine consuming just 4.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. The electric motor boasts 97.5% efficiency, allowing the combined system to deliver a total range of 1200 kilometers. This performance is attributed to advanced energy management systems that optimize power distribution between the battery and engine. The hybrid technology also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, enabling the car to power external devices using its battery. This feature expands the vehicle's utility beyond transportation, making it suitable for off-grid applications. The Seal U is expected to launch in India by the end of 2026, positioning BYD as a key player in the evolving hybrid vehicle market.#india #byd #seal_u #dm_i_super #hybrid_technology
