John Wick Spin-Off Film to Begin Production Next Month A new John Wick spin-off film, featuring Donnie Yen as the blind assassin and directed by the actor, is set to start production next month, according to US media reports. The project, previously announced at CinemaCon last year, will follow the story of Caine, a character introduced in the 2023 film John Wick: Chapter 4. The film, which does not yet have a title, will explore Caine’s journey after the events of that movie. The screenplay for the film was written by Mattson Tomlin, who is also known for his work on the next installment of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Tomlin’s script was co-written by Michael McGrale. The film will also bring back the fan-favorite character Akira, portrayed by Rina Sawayama. Yen, who will both direct and star in the film, described Caine as a unique action hero defined by contradictions—carrying love, responsibility, and sacrifice in a world shaped by consequences. In a statement to Deadline, Yen emphasized his goal to create a “definitive martial arts-infused action film” that honors the John Wick franchise while introducing new emotional depth and visual elements. He expressed excitement about combining his decades of experience in action cinema with innovative storytelling. The film will be produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, who have previously worked on all the John Wick movies and the recent spin-off Ballerina. Chad Stahelski, who directed John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum, John Wick: Chapter 4, and Ballerina, will also produce the film through his 87Eleven Entertainment banner. Keanu Reeves and John Saunders will serve as producers as well. Yen will act as an executive producer on the project. The film marks Yen’s return to the John Wick universe, where he first appeared as the blind assassin in the original trilogy.#keanu_reeves #donnie_yen #john_wick #cinemacon #ballerina
