PSPCL Urged to Reschedule Weekly Monday Power Cuts in Amritsar Local activists have called on the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to adjust its schedule for weekly Monday power shutdowns in Amritsar, proposing to move the maintenance work from peak business hours to early morning to minimize disruption to commercial operations and public life. The request was formalized in a letter addressed to PSPCL Chairman Yogesh Kamra by Yogesh Kamra, general secretary of Amritsar Vikas Manch and convenor of the Fly Amritsar Initiative. The letter highlighted the significant inconvenience caused by the current practice of conducting major maintenance between 10 am and 5 pm on Mondays, a time when businesses, corporate offices, and service providers are most active. Kamra acknowledged the necessity of regular maintenance for the reliability and safety of the power distribution network but emphasized that the timing of the shutdowns creates substantial challenges. He noted that Monday is a critical day for commercial activity, as businesses and service providers set the tone for the week. Prolonged power cuts during business hours, he argued, negatively impact productivity. The memorandum cited that thousands of businesses rely on diesel generators to sustain operations during the seven-hour outage, leading to increased costs due to high fuel prices. This financial burden, Kamra stated, disproportionately affects traders and entrepreneurs. The environmental consequences of the current schedule were also underscored. Kamra pointed out that the widespread use of diesel-powered backup systems during the outage contributes to air and noise pollution, harming public health and the environment.#amritsar #punejab_state_power_corporation_limited #yogesh_kamra #amritsar_vikas_manch #fly_amritsar_initiative
