Gujarat: Bakery on CG Road Fined Rs 25,000 for Insects in Nankhatai Ahmedabad: The routine of a bakery on CG Road was abruptly interrupted on Thursday after a local customer allegedly discovered insects on nankhatai, a popular sweet. This unsettling find led to a complaint being filed with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Health department officials conducted an inspection and identified several hygiene violations, resulting in a formal notice and a penalty of Rs 25,000 imposed on the establishment. Samples of nankhatai, coconut macaroon, and almond coconut biscuits from Beekay Bakers were collected and sent to a food laboratory for testing. This action coincided with a citywide enforcement drive carried out by the AMC health department from March 23 to March 26. During these four days, 229 food units across various neighborhoods in Ahmedabad were inspected. The campaign led to the issuance of 85 notices, the destruction of 144 kilograms of inedible food, and the disposal of 138 liters of unfit liquids. Additionally, 127 food samples were gathered from these units for further laboratory analysis. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to enforce food safety standards. The AMC’s broader initiative aimed to address hygiene concerns across the city, with inspections targeting both small vendors and larger establishments. The fine against Beekay Bakers underscores the severity of violations related to food safety, particularly the presence of contaminants like insects in baked goods. The case also reflects the growing emphasis on consumer protection and the role of municipal bodies in ensuring public health. While the bakery faces immediate penalties, the laboratory results will determine if further action is required.#ahmedabad_municipal_corporation #beekay_bakers #nankhatai #amc_health_department #food_safety_enforcement
