Frank Miller, director of the Student Privacy Policy Office at the Education Department, emphasized in a statement that “parents must be the decision-makers in matters impacting the most intimate parts of their children’s lives.” The investigations are part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to scrutinize schools that implement gender-inclusive policies, including allowing transgender students to use bathrooms or locker rooms aligned with their gender identity.
