Rakhis Get Priority as Post Offices toil to Keep Bond Intact With Rakshabandhan approaching, post offices in Nagpur have implemented special measures to ensure the timely delivery of rakhis, including dedicated express lanes, priority sorting, and dedicated delivery schedules. The initiative has seen a surge in demand, with approximately 700 to 800 Rakhi envelopes booked daily at major post offices across the city. Around 400 of these are sent via Speed Post, reflecting a growing preference for expedited services. At the General Post Office (GPO) in Civil Lines, the rush is evident, with roughly 300 to 400 customers specifically booking Rakhi envelopes. The GPO typically sees around 1,000 visitors daily, with footfall rising to 1,400 to 1,500 on busy days. The increased demand has prompted postal staff to prioritize Rakhi-related transactions, ensuring that these envelopes are handled separately from regular mail. Sub-postmaster Avinash Tadwekar at Shankar Nagar post office confirmed that Rakhi mail is segregated from standard consignments. These envelopes are packed into special bags and sent to the sorting office or National Sorting Hub, where they are further categorized by destination and PIN code. This meticulous process ensures that rakhis are dispatched on priority, avoiding delays that could disrupt the festive spirit. To prevent any bottlenecks during the holiday season, postmen have been assigned special delivery duties, with Rakhi envelopes given top priority. Tadwekar noted that Speed Post has become the preferred choice for last-minute senders, highlighting its reliability in meeting tight deadlines. The postal service’s efforts underscore the cultural significance of Rakshabandhan, a festival where siblings exchange rakhis to strengthen bonds.#nagpur #rakshabandhan #general_post_office #shankar_nagar_post_office #avinash_tadwekar
