Hours later, GLM-5.3 was officially unveiled, marking one of the fastest model launches in the industry. The release coincided with a broader surge in Chinese tech innovation, as companies like DeepSeek, XPeng, and Moonshot AI also announced major updates. GLM-5.3’s coding capabilities saw significant improvements. In the SWE-Marathon benchmark, which tests software engineering proficiency, the model’s score doubled from 19.4 to 42.5, while FrontierSWE rose from 67.5 to 78.1. On Terminal Bench 3.0, which simulates complex Linux terminal operations, GLM-5.3 achieved a fivefold jump in performance, scoring 28.3 compared to GLM-5.2’s 4.6. These gains were attributed to post-training optimizations rather than increased parameter counts, highlighting Zhipu’s focus on refining existing models. Security was a standout feature of GLM-5.3. The model scored 84.5 on CyberGym, a benchmark that evaluates the ability to identify and exploit vulnerabilities, placing it first among all evaluated models. Zhipu also disclosed a security audit ledger revealing 2,436 findings across 269 open-source projects. Of these, 1,097 were classified as Critical or High severity, with some vulnerabilities dating back to 1981. On average, these flaws had remained undetected in code for 26.6 years, underscoring the limitations of traditional audits in addressing the scale of modern software.
