David Payne replaces injured Edwards at Sunrisers Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed England all-rounder David Payne as a replacement for Australia’s Jack Edwards, who is ruled out of the IPL 2026 due to injury. Payne, a left-arm seamer with 233 T20 international appearances and 304 wickets at an average of 21.16, joins the team for INR 1.5 crore. The 35-year-old, who has played one ODI for England, last represented his country in a 2022 match against the Netherlands, where he took one wicket alongside David Willey. Payne is Gloucestershire’s leading T20 wicket-taker and was the top performer in the 2024 T20 Blast, claiming 33 wickets in 17 matches. He has also played for Welsh Fire in the Hundred and two seasons with the ILT20 side Desert Vipers. His inclusion comes as Sunrisers miss Pat Cummins, who is sidelined at the start of the tournament, with Ishan Kishan named interim captain. The injury absence of Edwards, who was acquired by SRH for INR 3 crore at the auction, adds to the team’s challenges. Meanwhile, KKR has also made a replacement, bringing in left-arm seamer Saurabh Dubey for INR 30 lakh to replace the injured Akash Deep. Deep, currently under medical review at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, was part of the IPL 2026 auction. The IPL 2026 season continues to see significant player movements, with other teams addressing their squad gaps. The Aditya Birla Group and Times of India Group-led consortium have acquired the Royal Challengers Bangalore for USD 1.78 billion, while Kal Somani has purchased Rajasthan Royals for USD 1.6 billion. Additionally, CSK have signed Spencer Johnson as a replacement for the injured Ellis, and Ben Duckett has withdrawn from the tournament.#ipl_2026 #sunrisers_hyderabad #david_payne #jack_edwards #gloucestershire
