Chlorine Gas Leak at Godhani Water Plant Hospitalizes 52 in Nagpur A chlorine gas leak at a water treatment plant in Godhani, near Collector’s Colony in Nagpur, has left at least 52 people hospitalized, with gas levels in the area gradually declining. The incident occurred during the night of Sunday to Monday, prompting emergency evacuations and a coordinated response from local authorities. According to officials, the leak caused breathing difficulties among residents in the vicinity, with several individuals rushed to Mayo Hospital and nearby private medical facilities. While 12 of the hospitalized patients have since been discharged, all remaining patients are reported to be in stable condition. Four minors are among those affected. Senior police officer Haresh Kalsekar from Mankapur police station confirmed that a station diary entry has been made regarding the incident. He stated that no formal offense has been registered at this stage, though an investigation is underway. "We will conduct an enquiry," Kalsekar said, emphasizing the need for a thorough probe into the incident. The Orange City Water Works (OCW), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) collaborated to evacuate residents from the affected area and stabilize the situation. The immediate vicinity of the tanker continued to emit a strong chlorine odor on Monday morning, though authorities confirmed that the gas concentration was decreasing. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols at industrial facilities.
