Wildfires Continue to Threaten Lincoln and Dawson Counties, Evacuations Ordered Emergency crews are working to contain a brush fire that ignited south of Maxwell in Lincoln County, prompting road closures and mandatory evacuations in several areas. The blaze, which has spread to southwest Dawson County, has forced residents to flee their homes as firefighters from multiple regions coordinate efforts to control the flames. Evacuation orders have been issued for the Village of Farnam, the Jeffrey Lake area, all residences located 2-3 miles south of Gothenburg, and areas south of Tri City and east of Highway 47. Highway 47 is fully closed in both directions from the Gothenburg interchange to Highway 23, with officials urging the public to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. The National Weather Service has warned that the fire is expected to shift southward following a wind change at 10 p.m., posing a direct threat to the town of Farnam. Evacuees in the affected region are being directed to Eustis Public Schools, which is serving as a temporary shelter. Additional evacuation centers include Brady School, located at 112 E Popleton Ave, Brady, NE 69123, where supplies such as food, water, blankets, and beds are available. Gothenburg Schools, however, is not currently operating as a shelter. Firefighters from Lexington, Cozad, and Arnold are providing mutual aid to combat the blaze, which has grown to cover 5,000 acres and is still expanding. The fire, initially a prescribed burn near Dunning, has spread beyond its original containment area and is now classified as the Road 203 Fire.
