2025-2026 Harley-Davidson Softail Models Recalled for Rear Brake Issue Harley-Davidson has initiated a recall for certain 2025-2026 Softail models due to a potential rear brake fluid leak caused by proximity to the body control module (BCM). The affected models include the Heritage Classic, Street Bob, Low Rider S, and Low Rider ST, while the Breakout, Fat Boy, and Gray Ghost are excluded. The recall impacts 16,994 motorcycles. According to documentation from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the rear brake lines on the affected models may be too close to the BCM, which is located near the battery. Over time, contact between the BCM and the brake line could wear through the line, leading to a fluid leak. This issue may result in reduced rear brake performance and an increased risk of crashes. The narrower frame design of the affected models compared to the wider frames of the excluded models explains the lack of clearance between the BCM and the brake line. Harley-Davidson became aware of the issue on March 5 after receiving a report of rear brake failure on a 2025 Low Rider ST. A review of warranty and service records identified three additional cases of brake fluid loss or inoperable rear brakes. The company then placed a hold on all affected motorcycles under its control. On April 6, an investigation confirmed a safety defect, prompting a voluntary recall. As of that date, no crashes or injuries related to rear brake failure had been reported. Dealers will replace the BCM caddy and associated hardware on recalled models, repositioning the BCM to create sufficient clearance from the rear brake line.
