BMW Unveils Fifth-Generation X5 with Multiple Powertrain Options BMW has officially launched the fifth-generation X5, marking a significant evolution in its luxury SUV lineup. The new model introduces a redesigned exterior, an all-new cabin, and the broadest range of powertrains ever offered on the X5. Alongside traditional petrol and diesel variants, BMW has introduced its first-ever all-electric iX5 and plans to add a hydrogen-powered version in the future. The fifth-generation X5 will begin production at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the U.S. in August 2026, with global sales starting in late November 2026 for petrol and diesel models, followed by electric and plug-in hybrid variants in early 2027. The new X5 adopts BMW’s Neue Klasse design language, featuring a taller, more upright front end with a redesigned illuminated kidney grille and new ‘double-X’ LED light signatures. The front lighting combines daytime running lights, indicators, and low-beam headlights into a single unit, while adaptive LED headlights with cornering lights, matrix high beams, and ‘Selective Beam’ technology are standard. The side profile includes cleaner body surfacing, flush-fitting windows, and electrically operated ‘BMW Winglet’ door handles integrated into the B- and C-pillars. The rear features slimmer LED tail-lamps with a new lighting signature, a redesigned bumper, and a wider stance. The M60e xDrive variant boasts an aggressive exterior with unique styling elements, while M Sport and M Sport Pro packages remain available. Buyers can choose from 11 exterior colors and alloy wheels ranging from 21 to 23 inches.
