3 IIT Students Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Three students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Powai in Mumbai lost their lives, while a fourth was critically injured in a multi-vehicle accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Thursday. The incident occurred on the Mumbai-bound lane near Khalapur, where a Volkswagen Polo traveling from Pune to Mumbai reportedly lost control due to high speed. The vehicle overturned multiple times, resulting in severe damage to the car. The accident involved four students who were traveling in the car at the time. Three of them succumbed to their injuries immediately, while the fourth was taken to a hospital in Khalapur for critical treatment. The deceased have been identified as Omkar Borse (22) from Nashik, Lay Bhatt (23) from Nagpur, and Shreyash Sharma (22) from Jaipur. All three were affiliated with IIT Powai in Mumbai. Their bodies are currently being kept at MGM Hospital in Kalamboli for post-mortem examinations. The incident caused a temporary disruption to traffic on the busy expressway. Highway police arrived at the scene promptly, cleared the wreckage, and restored traffic flow. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest the driver lost control near Khopoli, leading to the vehicle’s multiple overturns. The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of speed limits on highways.
