Locals express concerns that the situation will worsen during the monsoon season, leading to waterlogging, longer travel times, and increased accident risks. The stretch of road under construction has been a source of frustration for months. Residents report that the lack of proper road restoration has turned the area into a hazardous zone, particularly for two-wheeler riders navigating cracked and uneven surfaces. Shubhangi Nerker, a resident of Shesh Nagar, highlighted the daily struggles, stating, “The flyover work has been going on for nearly two years. We face problems every day because there is no proper diversion plan, and the alternative route remains heavily congested.” She added that road repairs have stalled, leaving damaged sections unattended for months. Local businesses and markets have also been affected. Jambhukar, a stationery shop owner near Hasanbagh Square, noted that while the weekly Monday market was shifted from the square, vendors continue to operate there, causing inconvenience to residents and businesses. NHAI Races To Finish Key Works, Open Rs998-crore Indora-Dighori Flyover By Aug 1 With less than 15 days remaining before the original June 30 deadline for the Rs998-crore Indora-Dighori Flyover project, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has intensified efforts to complete critical pending works. Union minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the flyover will be opened to traffic by August 1, extending the deadline by a month and offering relief to motorists on Nagpur’s busiest traffic corridors. However, officials clarified that only the main flyover stretches are likely to be operational by August 1, with ancillary works continuing afterward. The primary challenge remains the installation of a 60-metre-long open web girder over Level Crossing (LC) 570 at Pachpaoli, a critical component needed to connect the remaining portions of the flyover across railway tracks. An NHAI official stated that the 30-metre steel girder over LC 572 has already been completed, while the open web girder for LC 570 is currently being assembled. The girder will be launched once the Railways provide the required traffic blocks. NHAI is also awaiting railway approvals for third-party inspections and traffic blocks necessary for girder launching and related works. Officials noted that the authority has requested a total of 38 hours of railway blocks, though contractors typically complete such operations in significantly less time. The Indora-Dighori Flyover project, one of the city’s most complex infrastructure initiatives, traverses densely populated and congested areas. It comprises two flyovers: the first connecting Kamal Chowk and Reshimbagh Square, and the second linking Bhande Plot Square and Dighori Naka.
