The suspension, which runs until 21 June 2030, marks one of the most significant doping-related cases in the sport’s history. Vondrousova, a former French Open finalist and Olympic silver medalist, had reached a career-high ranking of No. 6 in 2021. The tribunal’s findings emphasized that refusing a doping test is treated as severely as a confirmed violation, with a four-year ban serving as the starting point for both scenarios. Karen Moorhouse, CEO of the ITIA, explained that the rule aims to prevent athletes from gaining an advantage by avoiding testing, stating, “You can’t have an anti-doping system where a player is in a better place by refusing to take a test than they would by taking the test and testing positive.” The incident occurred on 3 December when a female doping control officer approached Vondrousova at her home around 8 p.m. According to the ITIA, the officer arrived outside her designated one-hour window for anti-doping checks, which is permitted under the World Anti-Doping Agency’s whereabouts rules. Vondrousova did not allow the officer into her apartment and signed a form indicating her refusal to provide a sample.
