Bihar Bankipur By-election: Prashant Kishor Accuses Police of Detaining Supporters Ahead of Voting Hours before voting commenced for the crucial bypoll in Bihar's Bankipur constituency, tensions escalated as Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor accused the Bihar Police of detaining his supporters. The incident unfolded at Patna's Jakkanpur police station, where Kishor and his team demanded transparency regarding the whereabouts of detained JSP members. Kishor, making his electoral debut by contesting the Bankipur seat, claimed the police refused to disclose details of over 16 of his supporters who had been allegedly rounded up. He argued that the detentions were part of a coordinated effort by the ruling party to suppress opposition. "The police are unable to divulge the whereabouts of my supporters, and the SHO here claims the station was not involved in the detentions," Kishor stated, accusing higher-ranking officials of orchestrating the action. The former poll strategist alleged that the Station House Officer (SHO) at Jakkanpur threatened him and his team, warning that he would "deal with them after taking off his uniform." Kishor insisted the police were using administrative machinery to detain supporters for up to 24 hours without judicial oversight, a tactic he claimed would prevent them from casting votes. "The BJP knows it is going to lose the bypoll, so they devised this plan to keep some of my supporters in custody until voting ends," he said. Despite the controversy, Kishor emphasized that the BJP's attempt to manipulate the process would not guarantee victory.
