Contractor’s Negligence Snaps Electric Wire In Doctors’ Colony Nagpur: Residents of Doctors' Colony in Chhatrapati Nagar have accused a contractor of negligence after an overhead electricity wire snapped during sewage line installation work on Saturday, causing widespread power cuts. According to local reports, a JCB machine involved in digging operations accidentally struck the overhead electric line while retracting its arm, leading to the wire breaking and disrupting power supply in the neighborhood. The incident occurred during civic infrastructure upgrades, with the JCB reportedly hitting the wire while maneuvering in a narrow lane, which brought down the line and left several homes without electricity. Residents claimed the contractor and workers left the site without informing authorities or arranging immediate repairs. Under tender norms, contractors are required to notify the relevant department and ensure prompt restoration of public utilities if damaged during civic projects. However, with no response from the contractor, residents had to contact Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) officials themselves to report the issue and request power restoration. Dr. Nitin Mankar, a resident, told The Times of India that the power disruption caused significant inconvenience, particularly for families in the area. "Only my elderly parents were at home when the power went out. The contractor should have informed residents immediately after the wire was damaged. This reflects a serious lack of responsibility," he said. Mankar also highlighted delays in the restoration process, as MSEDCL engineers faced difficulty accessing the damaged pole due to the JCB being parked in the middle of the road. "The lane is already narrow, and there was barely enough space even for a person to pass," he added.#doctors_colony #chhatrapati_nagar #mSEDCL #jcb
