JioStar Terminates IPL and WPL Media Rights Agreements in Bangladesh Over Payment Defaults Dhaka [Bangladesh], April 1 (ANI): A significant media rights dispute has emerged in Bangladesh involving the broadcast and exploitation rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Women’s Premier League (WPL). JioStar India Private Limited (JioStar), which holds the underlying rights to these properties, has formally terminated its Bangladesh sub-licence agreements with Excel Lead IT Solutions FZ-LLC (Excel Lead), the holding company of sports broadcaster T-Sports. The termination followed "payment defaults" by Excel Lead, sources confirmed. The agreements, originally executed between Viacom18 Media Private Limited (now JioStar) and Clifford Commodity DMCC, were later novated in favor of Excel Lead (T-Sports). These agreements granted the rights to exploit the IPL and WPL digital media rights in Bangladesh for the 2023-27 seasons. According to sources, JioStar raised concerns in early January 2026 about outstanding dues related to the IPL 2025 and WPL 2025 seasons. Despite providing Excel Lead with access to all relevant matches and enabling full commercial exploitation during those periods, the payments remained unpaid. The cure period outlined in the agreements expired without resolution, prompting JioStar to exercise its termination rights. This action automatically reverted all licensed rights under the agreements back to JioStar.
