The game, played in front of a crowd of 6,498 on Senior Day, also honored 10 seniors and a student-manager. Spallina’s milestone came during the first quarter when his assist on a Michael Leo goal gave him 308 career points, breaking Powell’s previous record of 307. The senior captain finished the game with seven points, including two goals and five assists, in a performance that underscored his dominance as Syracuse’s offensive leader. The Orange’s offensive firepower was on full display from the outset. Syracuse opened the game with a 3-0 lead within the first four minutes, fueled by Leo’s two goals and Spallina’s unassisted tally. The second Leo goal, assisted by Spallina, marked the moment Spallina crossed into sole possession of the all-time points record. Colgate responded with back-to-back goals from Tristan Schaefer and Emmet Crotty to narrow the gap to 3-2, but Leo extended the lead with a hat trick in the first quarter, capped by a Spallina assist in the final seconds. The Orange led 5-2 after the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Syracuse maintained its lead through the second quarter, stretching it to 6-2 after a Luke Rhoa goal assisted by Finn Thomson.
