Rockstar Games Explains Why GTA VI Won't Launch on PC Simultaneously with Consoles Grand Theft Auto VI, the highly anticipated next installment in the iconic series, will not be released on PC at the same time as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to former Rockstar Games producer John Riccio. In an interview with Kiwi Talks, Riccio, who worked at the studio from 2003 to 2014, clarified that the decision stems from both technical and strategic considerations rather than a deliberate exclusion of PC users. The game is set to launch in November 2026, with PC versions expected to follow later. Riccio emphasized that consoles provide a more predictable development environment. Unlike PCs, which vary widely in hardware configurations, consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have standardized specifications. This allows developers to optimize performance efficiently, knowing the exact capabilities of the hardware, including temperature limits and processing power. "They have an ecosystem with precisely known hardware characteristics," Riccio explained. "You can focus on optimization without worrying about a ten-year-old graphics card or a high-end system with cutting-edge components." The technical challenges of adapting the game to PC, he noted, are significant. Porting a game to PC requires reducing system requirements, which involves manually reworking elements such as draw distance, model complexity, and code to disable unnecessary assets. This process is labor-intensive and time-consuming, often taking months of work by dozens of engineers. Riccio argued that this effort is better spent on improving the core game rather than compromising its graphical fidelity or performance.#playstation_5 #xbox_series_x_s #rockstar_games #grand_theft_auto_vi #john_riccio
