The central agency searched Kalanee Impex Ltd. and its director, Dharmesh Sangani, at a location in Mumbai during the operation. During the search, Sangani allegedly threw his mobile phone from the 13th floor of a building, an act the ED claims constitutes destruction of evidence. The agency has filed a formal complaint with the Mumbai Police, charging Sangani with this alleged misconduct. As of now, Sangani or his company has not responded to inquiries, and a statement from the associated film academy remains pending. The investigation focuses on Sangani’s role and that of his firm, with officials highlighting discrepancies in financial records. They allege that export proceeds from overseas buyers were not realized, and the company failed to secure an extension of time from the authorized dealer bank. During the searches, documents related to undisclosed foreign assets and bank accounts were discovered. The ED also uncovered substantial shareholding by Sangani in an undisclosed Canadian company. Officials identified foreign bank accounts in Canada, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates as part of the case. Additionally, US Customs authorities are reportedly investigating certain transactions involving the accused.
