Pre-Dawn Fire Rips Through Kalmeshwar Civic Body Office, Losses Pegged At Lakhs A significant fire broke out at the Kalmeshwar-Brahmani Municipal Council office in the early hours of Wednesday, causing extensive damage and losses estimated in the hundreds of thousands of rupees. The incident, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit, occurred around 5 a.m. and was first reported by a night-shift employee named Gunderao Kumre, who noticed flames inside the municipal building and immediately alerted the Kalmeshwar Fire Brigade. Despite the rapid spread of the fire, firefighters from the Kalmeshwar Fire Brigade, along with assistance from fire stations in Wadi, Saoner, and Mohpa, worked for nearly three hours to bring the blaze under control by approximately 8 a.m. The fire devastated key areas of the municipal council, including the office of the municipal council president. The adjoining establishment department, health department, and the inward-outward correspondence section sustained severe damage. Furniture, iron cupboards, fans, computers, and other office equipment were completely destroyed. However, several crucial departments, such as the property tax department, accounts section, birth and death registration wing, water supply department, and the construction department’s records and documents, remained unaffected. Local authorities took swift action to manage the situation.
