Karnataka MLAs Demand VIP Treatment At IPL Matches Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Friday that he would meet officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to address concerns raised by legislators regarding seating arrangements at IPL matches held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The discussion follows complaints from members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, spanning all political parties, about being treated with disrespect by KSCA staff during previous matches. Speaker of the Legislative Assembly UT Khader had directed the government on Thursday to ensure that every MLA receives four VIP tickets for the matches. However, Shivakumar clarified that providing four tickets per MLA was not feasible in all cases. He explained that previously, each MLA, MP, and minister was allocated one seat, but the government had since requested two tickets if family members were attending. For the first match on Saturday, legislators would be given two tickets, with further arrangements to be discussed for subsequent matches. The demand for VIP treatment emerged after legislators alleged that KSCA had not provided adequate seating or hospitality during events. Shivakumar emphasized that MLAs, as part of the government and legislative system, deserved proper accommodations. He stated that the KSCA had been granted permission to host matches at the stadium following a stampede incident last year during celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory, which resulted in 11 deaths and numerous injuries. Shivakumar confirmed that he would engage with KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad and other officials to resolve the issue.#royal_challengers_bengaluru #m_chinnaswamy_stadium #karnataka_state_cricket_association #karnataka_deputy_chief_minister #venkatesh_prasad
BJP MLA Suresh Kumar rejects IPL tickets, calls it ‘VIP culture’ Former Minister and BJP MLA S. Suresh Kumar has rejected free Indian Premier League match tickets offered to legislators, criticizing the practice as a reflection of “VIP culture” and “politics of entitlement.” His stance aligns with other BJP leaders, including State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra and BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who have also opposed the distribution of IPL passes. Kumar’s rejection came amid widespread demand for tickets from legislators across party lines, including Leader of Opposition R. Ashok. While some lawmakers pushed for the tickets, Kumar argued that the practice undermines the credibility of politicians and erodes public trust. He highlighted that such privileges have persisted even under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, calling the situation “appalling.” In a press statement, Kumar stated that the prevalence of VIP culture in the state government, led by a self-proclaimed socialist chief minister, has led to a decline in the image and reputation of politicians. He further criticized lawmakers for seeking personal benefits, especially after past tragedies, arguing that such actions demonstrate insensitivity and further alienate the public. Following the legislators’ demand for free tickets, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) decided to issue two tickets each to members of the legislative assembly. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the issue in Mysuru, stating that legislators could take advantage of the tickets if they wished. He noted that the number of tickets provided had increased from one to two, adding that lawmakers were free to decline the offer if they chose.#bjp_mla_suresh_kumar #state_bjp_president_b_y_vijayendra #bjp_mp_tejasvi_surya #leader_of_opposition_r_ashok #karnataka_state_cricket_association
