Tiger Kills Man in Chimur Taluka, Maharashtra A 46-year-old man was fatally attacked by a tiger in the agricultural fields of Vahanagaon village, located in Chimur taluka, Chandrapur district, Maharashtra. The incident occurred on Thursday, and the victim’s body was recovered on Friday evening. The man, identified as Shankar Dadaji Masram, had returned to his native village from Khambada in Warora taluka to attend a religious ceremony. During his visit, he traveled to perform a ‘pooja’ (prayer ritual) for his newly purchased two-wheeler near a mahua tree in the fields. According to forest officials, the tiger, believed to have been hiding along a nearby stream, launched the attack. Masram succumbed to his injuries immediately. His family became concerned when he did not return home and filed a missing persons complaint. On Friday, villagers and relatives searched the area and discovered his scarf and spectacles near a stream close to the cremation ground. His severely mutilated body was later found a short distance away. Forest officials from the Khadsangi buffer range arrived at the scene, conducted an inspection (panchnama), and sent the body for post-mortem examination at the sub-district hospital in Chimur. The Forest Department has announced financial assistance to the victim’s family and urged residents to remain vigilant due to increased tiger activity in the region. This incident marks the 14th human fatality caused by predator attacks in Chandrapur district this year, with 13 of those deaths attributed to tigers. In 2025, the district recorded a total of 47 fatalities from predator attacks, highlighting the growing threat posed by wildlife in the area.
